ABOUT THE PROGRAM: MATBA member Drew Hanson and his assistant promise a very informative presentation entitled" Matcha 101: An Introduction to Powdered Green Tea. The first part of the program will include a presentation outlining the cultivation of the tea camellia used to produce matcha as well as the process of preparing the raw tea for use. The second section will be devoted to taste testing matcha from five different companies, each featuring different taste profiles. All the attendees will have the chance to sample and discuss each one. Various utensils used to serve and the health benefits that might be derived from matcha will also be covered. And lastly, we will focus on uses for matcha other than drinking.

ABOUT THE VENUE: The Orchard Tea Room at the Rose Hip Barn serves English afternoon tea with vintage and antique china, silver. The tea room is 'shabby chic', relaxed and fun. They can seat up to 25 guests and it's not uncommon to find guests from different tables chatting together happily as if they are from the same group. A selection of select loose tea from single estates and blends from the Greenhalgh Tea Co. is served.

Open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm every Thursday and the LAST Friday and Saturday of the month. MATBA member Karen Donnelly, owner of "Enchantment for Your Tables", manages the Tea Room, caters private tea events, gives talks on tea and tea culture and hosts tea and food pairing events at the Orchard Tea Room and at private events off-site.
